My Pack

This week I was going to do a serious issue about some government corruption but I took a turn for the lighter and decided to welcome you to the Franklin Zoo.  This week I decided to introduce my pack of animals—six in all—and tell their story of how they came to be in my pack.  All of them are rescued dogs and cats.  I have rescued and fostered some others but these are the ones that I have in my pack.

First, I found Xena.  I had no idea what kind of dog she was.  After much research, I found out she was a new breed that was recently recognized.  She is a Carolina Dog or the American Dingo.  Her cousin is the Australian Dingo.

Her story started shortly after I bought my house.  I was looking for some pets because I always said that the first thing I was going to do after I have my own place is to get some pets.  Well, I mentioned this to a friend of mine and about a week later, I received a call from her.  She had a friend that cannot keep her dog.  She could not put her in the pound they would have put her down because they said she was vicious.  I opened my house to her.  She was one year old then.  She is now five.

It was difficult at first since she was the only pet in the house.  She had separation issues and tore up the frame of the door to the backyard.  I tried crating her but she tore them up.  She went through six different crates.  I was at my wits end.  At that time, I received another call from my friend and she said she had another dog for me.  I thought about it and I figured if there was another dog in the house, she might settle down.  Well, it worked.  She has been fine ever since.

Xena loves to play.  She licks your face as if it was an ice cream cone and tries to lick your face off.  She also loves the snow.

More to come tomorrow…
